SPACE CREATORS

Space Creators

The Space Creators program, intiated by APRA AMCOS and MAV with consultation and facilitation by ZIIMUSIC, focuses on addressing the unique challenges faced by so-called Austrlian songwriters from global majority communities. The program was co-designed by Ai Yamamoto, Ajak Kwai, and Jerry Ijale Agbinya, who brought their diverse creative practices to the table. Their collaboration aimed to create a supportive and inclusive environment that nurtures the creative talents of global majority artists, emphasising the importance of community and cross-cultural collaboration.

The Space Creators program's mission is to create pathways for global majority creatives by cultivating a culture of safety, cross-cultural collaboration, and showcasing cultural capital. The program values storytelling that acknowledges diverse experiences, freedom to tell human stories, and creating art that informs itself without being bound by stereotypical narratives. It seeks to redefine mainstream perceptions of high-quality music by highlighting the commercial potential of culturally diverse music
